Small Hotels have been targetted by a man calling himself Detective Sergeant Roberts from Carlisle Police Station claiming to be investigating a stolen credit card which had then been used for fraudulent card transactions. The man asked about guests who had made a booking for several rooms over a particular weekend. The name and telephone number was asked for so they could follow up. This man then contacted the guest and passed himself off as the hotel saying they had overpaid on their deposit and that he wanted to process a refund for them and asked for their credit card details.
