Derwentwater Walk Report

Shipwreck on Derwentwater?

Perhaps put off by the wet and windy forecast a smaller than usual group of members of the Northern Lakes Accommodation Providers (NLAP) enjoyed their latest walk on Tuesday 30 September. Given the conditions the proposed straightforward circuit of Derwentwater proved to be a good choice.

Meeting outside the Moot Hall the group headed down through the town and out across the fields towards Portinscale, walking around the lake in the anti-clockwise direction. The work that has been carried out (and in places is still underway) on the footpaths and boardwalk was much appreciated, providing a good quality surface to walk on in most areas.

The walk will no doubt be remembered by those taking part for two reasons: the sighting of the pictured boat sunk in Barrow Bay; and a well earned cup of tea and a cake at the Lakeside Tea Gardens! Overall, despite getting fairly wet (a combination of the rain and sloshing along flooded footpaths in places) the group enjoyed an afternoon out together.

Northern Lakes Accommodation Providers (NLAP) is a membership driven association, representing the serviced accommodation industry in the northern area of the Lake District National Park. These organised walks are part of a varied social calendar, giving members two social events in most months. For more information on the NLAP please contact Alan Jameison on 017687 79660.
